The Expropriation Bill provides for the expropriation of property for a public purpose or in the public interest.
In May 2016, the Bill was passed by Parliament and sent to the President for approval, but the Bill was sent back by the President to the National Assembly in February 2017 due to constitutional reservations about inadequate public participation. The Bill is still before the Portfolio Committee on Public Works.
